Work Year: The position of the Certified Athletic Trainer is for the the 2024-2025 school year, supporting Sharon Public Schools 3-season MIAA athletic programs. with days and hours agreed upon with the Athletic Director. Schedule will include some holidays, weekend and school vacation hours.
Summary: To provide and coordinate the prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to all student-athletes who participate in the Sharon Interscholastic Athletic Program. To work in partnership with the Sharon Public Schools Director of Athletics to maintain, organize and administer the overall program of interscholastic athletics at Sharon Public Schools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- NATA certification
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensure
- First aid and CPR/AED certification
- MIAA required concussion training
- Familiar with Excel and MS word
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as an on-site athletic trainer for all SPS sports practices and games, including pre- and
post-requirements;
- Act as first responder and resource for injury assessment and attention to student-athletes;
collaborate on referrals where appropriate;
- Assist in rehabilitation for injuries to student-athletes; advises on injury prevention;
- Maintain appropriate quantities of first aid/athletic training supplies required for each event;
- Communicate with coaches, the Athletic Director and school administrators, athletes and parents regarding injury prevention, management and first aid recommendations;
- Maintain adequate and accurate medical quality records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
- Produce timely, accurate records and reports to Athletic Director/Administration;
- Adheres to MIAA and Sharon district policies regarding participation and eligibility to play with respect to any medical or safety criteria,quality assurance, safety and infection control.
- Assist with student pre-participation physical examinations;
- Attends screening events, presents at educational events or workshops for athletes, coaches and families regarding injuries, concussion protocols and risk as needed
- Assist parents, students and coaches in attaining their concussion certifications;
- Participate in the development and biannual review of the District's policies and procedures
regarding management of sports-related head injuries (105 CMR 2001.006);
- Complete an annual Concussion training (105 CMR 201.007)
- Review information from Pre-participation forms, or school-based equivalent, to identify
students who are a greater risk for repeated head injuries;
- Identify athletes with head injuries or suspected concussions that occur in practice or
competition and removing them from play;
- Participate, if available, in the graduated re-entry planning and implementation for students
who have been diagnosed with a concussion.
- Work closely with the School Nurses Office; and
- Assist the School Physician and Athletic Director as necessary.Serve as the liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes and parents.
- Coordinate with the Director of Athletics to provide athletic training services and coverage for the athletic training room, non-game day practices and all required athletic contests.
- Work with the Director of Athletics and Athletic Department on day-to-day management, supervision and support of athletic contests and activities.
- Work with the Director of Athletics in maintaining all athletic training supplies and equipment, assist with re-orders when necessary.
- Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the student-athlete
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
