Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled High School English Language (EL) Teacher to join our team at Sharon High School. The EL Teacher will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to English Language Learners in grades 9-12, helping them achieve academic success and proficiency in English. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching EL students, a passion for fostering an inclusive learning environment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
- Design and implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans tailored to the needs of ELL students.
- Utilize research-based strategies and best practices to support language acquisition and academic growth.
- Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet diverse student needs, including academic content and language objectives.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess student language proficiency and academic progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction, provide targeted feedback, and adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and performance.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective accommodations and modifications for ELL students.Work closely with other educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support and instruction.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with EL teaching strategies, educational technology, and best practices.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and committees focused on improving educational outcomes for ELL students.
Family and Community Engagement:
- Communicate with families about student progress, challenges, and achievements, using culturally responsive approaches.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and the community to create a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), or a related field.
- Valid MA educator license in English as a Second Language or English Language Learner
- Experience teaching English Language Learners at the high school level is preferred.
- Strong understanding of language acquisition theories, instructional strategies for EL students, and cultural competence.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and manage multiple tasks effectively.
