The Sharon Public Schools is seeking a 1:1 instructional assistant to support an elementary student throughout their school day. The successful candidate will have strong written and oral language skills, and experience with students with disabilities is preferred.
This position follows the Sharon Public Schools calendar. Work day 8:45am-3:15pm.

Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum high school diploma, (two years post-high school education, Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
REPORT TO: Building Principal/ Assistant Principal, (Director of Student Services, )
General Description: To assist teachers in providing students with a nurturing, supportive and collaborative environment where curriculum and instruction are aligned to standards and the needs of each child. Responsibilities will vary according to the school, students, and program /classroom where the instructional assistant is assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct (including but not limited to maintaining a positive attitude, professional behavior, and using appropriate language with students and staff).
- Maintain strict standards of student and family confidentiality.
- Work with students individually or in small groups addressing specific IEP goals.
- Administer and monitor curriculum-based and MCAS testing, providing all necessary accommodations.
- Support students in all educational settings
- Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse learning styles.
- Reinforce the principles of social interaction programs by modeling positive behavior.
- Support classroom routines and procedures as established by the classroom teacher.
- Assist in implementing school-wide goals for maintaining a safe environment.
- Report any issues directly to the classroom teacher and, if appropriate, building administration.
- Keeps students focused, works on behaviors, and repeats information as classroom teachers are introducing new ideas.
- Performs all duties tasked by the classroom teacher or assigned by the building administration.
- Assist substitute assigned to the classroom when a teacher is absent or attending meetings.
- Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, assist with small group instruction. Assist students by modeling the necessary skills to perform academic, social, and behavioral tasks within the classroom environment.
- Assist students with planning and organization
- Assist in providing IEP/504 accommodations and modifications as appropriate.
- Assist teachers with assignments, collection of work, supervise/ administer tests, make-up work, and classroom management.
- Attend Professional Development as assigned.
- Assist students with leaving and entering the building and accompany the students to their transition vehicles.
- May assist a substitute assigned to the classroom when a teacher is absent or attending meetings. As appropriate, may take on the role of a substitute when assigned by the building principal.
- Performs other duties as necessary to the specific student assignment (ie Kindergarten Instructional Assistant positions).
- Accompany students to and monitor recess, lunch, and specials; provide assistance during specials in all-class activities.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks, prioritize, organize and maintain clean work surfaces.
- Assist students with and teach ADL skills, including snacktime, and dressing for outdoor activities.
- Manage home/school folders, and take attendance.
- Prep materials for an all-class activity.
- Assist with supervision of students during emergency situations, or drills
- Actively participate in academic instruction and classroom management.
Salary based on experience in accordance with the Instructional Assistants Collective Bargaining Agreement.
